I have 50+ years accounting experience. I began doing the bookkeeping for my father’s general contracting business as a pre-teen. Over the next 25 years, I worked my way up the accounting department ladder to hold positions such as Director of Finance, Chief Financial Officer and Controller.
The following 18+ years were spent in public accounting where I gained extensive experience with new business start-ups, accounting and interpretation of financial statements, preparation of GAAP and OCBOA financial statements, managerial accounting and reporting, cost accounting, revenue enhancement techniques, inventory management, account and tax consultation to businesses, non-profit organizations and individuals, tax planning and preparation, business closures and liquidations and accounting for estates and trusts. I also performed audits of local governments, hospitals, non-profits and colleges and have successfully represented clients in Worker’s Compensation , sales tax and employment tax audits.
I opened Essential Accounting in February 2009 during the “great recession”. My goal was to establish an accounting/bookkeeping firm that could provide high level accounting to those who couldn’t pay the $100+/hour charged by CPAs. In addition to my experience, I possess the following qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Accounting, earned with High Honors. I have completed some graduate level courses as well.
- Current member of The Golden Key International Honor Society and Alpha Beta Gamma.
- Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor 2007-2016. QuickBooks user since 1999.
I attended Missoula Vo-Tech for bookkeeping. I then started my working career as a medical billing associate for a local doctor and hospital. After doing this for 7 years, I decided to go out on my own and opened a medical billing business in Missoula. Shortly thereafter, I began doing medical collections which I did for the next 5 years. Looking to change fields, I became an Executive Administrative Assistant. I loved helping clients/customers and also enjoyed working behind the scenes making sure the Executive had everything they needed to do their job successfully. In 2014 I relocated to Kalispell and began working for Essential where I have been able to use all my experience and education.
